Cancellation of Public Hearing

The Secord Township Board has cancelled the Public Hearing that was previously scheduled for August 

19, 2026 at 9am to discuss the proposal for the Special Assessment for Fire Protection and was to 

be held at:

   TO PLACE MILLAGE QUESTION ON BALLOT

WHEREAS, the Township Board of Secord Township wishes to provide fire protection and emergency medical services; and

WHEREAS, townships may provide fire protection and emergency medical services, as authorized by Public Act 33 of 1951, MCL 41.801; and

WHEREAS, townships may impose and levy ad valorem property taxes to finance lawful public services, as authorized by the Michigan Constitution of 1963 and other laws; and

WHEREAS, the Township Board of Secord Township wishes to levy .5 mill to provide fire protection and emergency medical services;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Township Board of Secord Township, Gladwin County, approves the following millage ballot question language and directs the Clerk to submit it to be placed on the November 3, 2026, election ballot:

SECORD TOWNSHIP GLADWIN COUNTY FIRE/EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES MILLAGE PROPOSAL

Shall Secord Township impose an increase of up to .5 mills ($.50 per $1,000 of taxable value) in the tax limitation imposed under Article IX, Sec. 6 of the Michigan Constitution and levy it for 4 years, 2027 through 2030 inclusive, for fire protection and emergency medical services, which .5 mills increase will raise an estimated $69,410.62 in the first year the millage is levied.

I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and complete copy of a resolution adopted by the Township Board of the Township of Secord, County of Gladwin, State of Michigan, at a SPECIAL meeting held on August 7, 2026, and that said meeting was conducted and public notice of said meeting was given pursuant to and in compliance with the Open Meetings Act, being Act 267, Public Acts of Michigan, 1976, and that the minutes of said meeting were recorded and will be or have been made available as required by said Act.

   TO ABANDON THE PROPOSED SPECIAL ASSESSMENT FOR FIRE PROTECTION

WHEREAS, the Township Board of Secord Township wishes to abandon the proposed Special Assessment for "Fire Protection"; and

WHEREAS, the Township Board of Secord Township has met at a Special Board Meeting held August 7, 2026 at 10am, and voted to abandon the proposed Special Assessment for Fire Protection and;

WHEREAS, any resolutions that were passed previous to this stating to start the project be declared null and void;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Township Board of Secord Township, Gladwin County, approves the retraction and directs the Clerk to record, publicly post it at the Township Hall as well as the Township website and mail a copy to each parcel owner who received the original proposal for the Special Assessment for Fire Protection.
